The race is worth $125,000 in prize money and is raced under set weight plus penalty conditions.

The Carlyon Cup is a Group 3 race that is run over a distance of 1,600 metres.

Western Australian local Ranger will have his first-up start for the autumn in the 2012 Carlyon Cup.

Ranger finished third in the Group 2 CB Cox Stakes at Ascot last start after finishing second to Playing God in the Group 1 Kingston Town Stakes.

The five-year-old gelding has won six of his 19 race starts, including the Group 2 Le Steere Stakes, and has earned more than $520,000 in prize money.

Ranger is then being targeted towards a run in the 2012 Australian Cup in March.

The 2012 Carlyon Cup will be run on C.F. Orr Stakes Day alongside the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes, Group 3 Geoffrey Belmaine Stakes, Group 3 Rubiton Stakes, Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (Fillies), Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (C&G), Group 3 Rubiton Stakes and Listed Kevin Hayes Stakes.
