The 2011 Carlyon Cup will take place this Saturday February 12, 2011.

Twenty horses are now left competing for a start in the 16 horse field after nominations were released yesterday.

The Group 3 Carlyon Cup will be run over a distance of 1,600 metres for the first time since 2005.

The 2011 Carlyon Cup will be worth $125,000 and will be run at Caulfield Racecourse as part of the action packed C.F. Orr Stakes Day.

Robert Hickmott has entered four horses in the 2011 Carlyon Cup, including Cornish, Fergus McIver, Mourayan and Stillman.

Mourayan will be attempting the 1,600 metres distance after running over 3,200 metres last start.

French horse Laristan will be looking for his first Australian title in this year’s Carlyon Cup.

Laristan finished fourth at Flemington last start, which was his first race in Australia.

Many of the horses nominated for the 2011 Carlyon Cup, including Laristan and Peter Moody’s Hanks, will be looking for experience ahead of the 2011 Australian Cup on March 12, 2011.

Also nominated is Jim Conlan’s Larry’s Never Late and Lee Freedman’s Ajhar.
