Rightfully Yours Wins 2010 Carlyon Cup

February 22nd, 2010

On Saturday at Caulfield’s Blue Diamond Stakes Day, the Mick Price-trained Rightfully Yours claimed victory in one of the day’s great Group 3 features, the $125, 000 Rokk Ebony Carlyon Cup (1400m).

A small but strong field of six runners contested the middle-distance gallop but it was five-year-old Rightfully Yours, installed as the $2.70 favourite, who outclassed his rivals holding on to defeat the Anthony Cummings-trained George Main Stakes winner Road To Rock ($9) by a short-head with the longest priced runner of the field Delayedreaction ($26) 1 ¼ lengths back in third.

It was a tight finish, with Rightfully Yours and Road To Rock racing closely over the closing stages of the race. Road To Rock, ridden by Mark Zahra, gained the lead momentarily inside the 200m but Rightfully Yours bought out a last minute burst of acceleration that saw him secure the winning edge.

Early pacesetter Danzylum faded on the straight and finished last while Raffaello ran a gallant fourth and Vigor dropped back into a disappointing fifth place.

It turned out to be the right decision by trainer Mick Price, who was also considering a run in the Hareeba Stakes at Mornington last Wednesday for Rightfully Yours, but decided to stick with his home track at Caulfield instead.

Rightfully Yours has now won nine of their 22 career starts for over $448, 000 in prizemoney.
