2010 Carlyon Cup Final Field

February 18th, 2010

This Saturday on Blue Diamond Stakes Day at Caulfield, the course will come alive with an elite line-up of seven Group status races including in the $125, 000 Group 3 Rokk Ebony Carlyon Cup (1400m).

Six middle distance gallopers are lining up in the 2010 Carlyon Cup, the diminutive size of the field in no way a reflection of the quality as some solid runners are engaged in the Group 3 feature.

Representing trainer Anthony Cummings is the George Main Stakes winner Road To Rock in barrier four.

Another top pick for the Carlyon Cup on Saturday is the Jim Marconi-trained Raffaello, drawn well in barrier three. The five-year-old is looking to atone for his last place finish in the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes on February 6, and the drop back in class here should suit him.

Vigor, trained by Danny O’Brien, hasn’t been seen on the track since he finished out of the money in the Emirates Stakes back in November but returns on Saturday in barrier five. Vigor, who placed third in last year’s Caulfield Cup will be ridden by champion hoop Damien Oliver with O’Brien saying the five-year-old O’Reilly gelding will have only a short autumn campaign before being prepared for a spring Cups campaign later in the year.

The 2010 Carlyon Cup is programmed as race three at the meeting’s cracker nine-race card and is scheduled to start at 1:30pm (EST). Meanwhile the feature race of the day, the $1million Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes will run as race seven.
